Every Tuesday afternoon, the Red Hook Moms playgroup meets at a member's house and we let the little ones play and wander around attempting to snatch snacks and drink from sippy cups that don't belong to them. As they get older (most of the 10 or so regulars are between 15-24 months), we are starting to see a little more bickering over toys and a few tantrums...all age-appropriate stuff. Today Harris and his mom, Amy, hosted, along with Otto, the world's only toddler-tolerant Siamese cat. He was an amazingly patient cat, and Jack & Aidan were besotted. They had a chance to practice petting a real cat, and were very responsive to my reminders of "gently, touch the cat gently". All our practice with their stuffed cats paid off...Otto was gently and persistently petted until he finally retired to a bedroom and stayed there.
Today's lineup: Aidan, Jack, Harris, Anselm, Lelia and Adeline. It was a small group. Notice how in the next photo, taken maybe 2 seconds later, the rest of the tots remain in exactly the same position, but our guys have completely flipped over and are on their way off the couch -- probably to see where Otto went. Not big on sitting still, our guys...
