He's fine, though

At 3:00AM on Saturday, we were initiated into the ranks of anxious parents driving children to the hospital in the middle of the night. Boy, it's cold, lonely and scary when you're rushing a sick baby through the dark toward the ER. Aidan had what seems to be a nasty virus, and had been unable to keep down any food or liquid at all for at least 12 hours when our pediatrician in Brooklyn advised us to take him to the nearest hospital for assessment. We were upstate, so he and I took off for the local Catskill Medical Center, while worried Deb stayed home to be with sleeping Jack. Several hours later, Aidan had been checked for dehydration (he wasn't) and given anti-nausea medication + fluids and we were free to go. All's well and he should be just fine. And a very sweet nurse gave me a helpful tip: turns out that babies actually tend NOT to like the flavored Pedialyte and prefer the unflavored kind when they're sick and need to rehydrate. Good to know and handy for the future -- no doubt this is just the beginning of many bouts with worrying viruses.
