Today we went in search of a few last-minute items for the Thanksgiving menu, and ended our shopping trip with a little stroll over to tiny Cobble Hill Park. It was even quieter than usual, and the little playground had only a few nannies and their charges enjoying the slide and jungle gym. As a consolation for yesterday's awful doctor visit (do you know how they draw the required 2 vials of blood from a 1-year old? It Is Not Good), I wanted to give the boys their first chance to play in a sandbox. We weren't disappointed: the pit was full of sand and fun sand toys, and empty of rowdy pre-schoolers. We climbed right in and soon, after some baffled looks from the boys and a little tasting of the sand itself, they got up and started to have fun. Aidan seems to love sand, and he used tools and his hands to dig. Jack enjoyed chewing on the sand toys (of course) and examining the concrete seal statue in the middle of the pit. They were both enthralled when a 2-year old named Paulie joined us in the box and started to play nicely with them. He crouched down in front of Jack and showed him how to pack sand into a little pail, and he gave Aidan a huge, unexpected bear hug that made him smile for a long time -- that was pretty cute. We shared our cheese snack with Paulie, chatted for a bit about whether squirrels would eat cheese (apparently not), and then it was time to go. A nice morning.
