We've settled into a nice rhythm of wake up, playing, breakfast and then art time. Since art time takes all of 5-10 minutes at this age before they lose interest, we sometimes have it again in the afternoon (helps to briefly stave off those pre-dinner tantrums). Can't wait until the summer when afternoon art time will be outdoors: sidewalk chalk, sand play, painting with water, etc. For now, we have fun with indoor activities, and today it's Play Clay. I cooked up two quick batches of the stuff (blue & green) yesterday afternoon for their Friday playdate with Alex. It's super-easy, incredibly cheap, took less than 20 mins from prep to cleanup and feels just like PlayDoh! All three toddlers had lots of fun squishing it all over the red project table, and then all through the playroom.
This morning, they're contained in highchairs and I gave them some tools to use with the clay -- plastic knives & little funnels for cutting and stamping. They each take their own unique approach: Jack was very interested in the tools, and examined the knife and compared & stacked the funnels for a long time before he played with the clay. Aidan enjoyed the clay right away, pulling little pieces off and poking it to make holes with the knife. He didn't care about his funnel and gave it right to Jack (they give things to us and each other now, it's quite cute). Aidan also kept giving me the clay, wanting me to make balls and flattened circles out of it for him to take apart again. I'll make more colors this week.
