That's what it's called in the book I have (and love) called "First Art: Art Experiences for Toddlers and Twos" by Mary Ann Kohl. She's this amazing children's art teacher that inspired another of my favorite art-for-toddlers sources, The Artful Parent.
As the snow falls outside our window one quiet morning, the boys stay in their highchairs after breakfast and we mix together cornstarch and water (they get to feel each ingredient, then they help stir). The resulting fun stuff behaves like both a liquid and a solid...it's impossible to describe, you really have to experience it! Then we add a drop or two of food coloring, and we see how it blends slowly in...so much fun and so worth the mess! (note the handy painter's dropcloth on the floor -- that's essential).
