A bike ride on Governor's Island

On Friday, we took the Water Taxi to Governor's Island, just to check out all the recent hoopla about the fun, free events out there. It was a nicely cool and overcast morning (which turned into our current hideous sauna-type weather within a few hours), and Jack loved the breezy boat ride. Aidan napped during the ride over, but woke up as we walked around in search of food. The scenery was great -- quiet, leafy isolation was a soothing change -- and all the spookily empty houses/barracks/buildings had us complaining again about the price of NYC real estate (okay, besides the fact that there is no potable water on the island, exactly *why* can't anyone live there?) The boys had lots of fun manning the front of the bike, after a brief period of adjusting to helmet-wearing. We biked the perimeter of the island, had some ice cream & a turn on the playground swings, and then it was back to the boat and back into the simmering heat of Brooklyn.
