Uncle Larry's Visit

This past week brought several things, including a nice visit from Uncle Larry, impressively named 2008 Cyclist of the Year for a local running & cycling club.  Needless to say, he biked out from the city to see us, and as a bonus, brought a yummy lunch.  Both boys spent time awake and fussing, so Larry got to witness firsthand the shuffling of babies that any mealtime entails:  first one parent holds the fussiest baby and the calmer one works himself into a state in a Boppy pillow.  Then both babies are held, then the other parent holds both to let the first parent gulp down some food...it's always a pretty intense 20 minutes or so. It's sometimes easier just to have a protein shake and call it a meal. Here Larry admires Aidan, while the grumpy little guy frowns at the camera.

Other new things this week:  Both boys have discovered their hands (left hand first for both, but Aidan seems to be favoring the right hand now;  Jack continues to favor the left) and are very busy trying to eat said hands.  Jack has grown out of fussing with tummyache for 3 hours every night, and now has become a good sleeper, consistently going to bed around 8:00PM and sleeping through until 1:00AM, which is a nice chunk of time.  Aidan has just begun to have a nightly tummyache, which keeps him up well past bedtime, making him overtired, etc., etc. We're waiting for this stage to pass.  Aidan has discovered that he can make a coughing sound, so he "coughs" a few times until we pay attention, then he's all smiles.  Jack is getting better at sitting up, and has started to pick up and manipulate toys.  He's also begun to tentatively turn the pages in his little cloth and board books!  I'm extra proud of that new skill...reading daily to your newborn pays big.
